Write for SMD.

Things you should know.

tl;dr We offer limited “follow” links for quality content, but we also have pretty high standards about what constitutes quality, and we’re unapologetic about our standards.

We get a lot of guest proposals, but limit how much we publish and hold a pretty high standard for the content we publish. We are not here to just farm out articles, but rather provide legitimate value to our readers. We also understand publishing may be part of building your brand or your marketing strategy, and we respect that. So check it out.

Content Guidelines

  • Content can be tips, practical advice, case studies or stories related to social media, digital marketing, or similar topics. If you have an idea for an article, search our site to see if it’s already been written about. If we don’t feel that your article is closely related enough or too similar to another article, then it’s likely we’ll pass over it.

  • Written in English, without spelling or grammatical errors to be taken seriously.

  • Your content must be current, original, and not already published anywhere online.

  • If your article includes statistics, please link to the source of the information.

  • Any images submitted, including your header image, must be either original or fair use with info on where it was obtained. If the content is great but the image is less than stellar, we may replace the image… but more than likely, we may just discount the article as a whole. We’re looking for thoughtful, well-assembled submissions.

  •  We reserve the right to edit content you submit but this will primarily be done to correct errors or make the content more readable.

  • Must submit with a 40-50 word summary of your article.

Links:

We understand backlinks, and the motivation behind them. We’re protective of ours, but we’ll still share our “link juice” in exchange for quality content.

  • No affiliate links. If you give us an affiliate link, we’ll strip it to a bare link and not feel bad about it.

  • We do not allow links to pages associated with gambling, dating, CBD, vaping, or adult sites.

  • If your article has too many links, but the content is great, we might send it back and request you remove a few of the hyperlinks. If you article is a blatant link farm, it will probably be rejected outright.

Best Practices for SMD (a.k.a. How to Increase Your Likelihood of Publication with Us)

We receive batches of guest submissions daily, and only review them several times a week, which forces us to take the pragmatic approach of actively looking for reasons to veto articles. Read the above guidelines, provide thoughtful content, and don’t give us obvious reasons to overlook yours.

  • Have a catchy, well-thought out headline and subhead

  •  For longer articles, multiple articles may be appropriate

  • Use H2 and H3 tags to break up your content into sections

  • Keyword optimize where appropriate, but do not keyword stuff

  • Don’t be obvious in your writing that you are trying to promote a brand, product, or service

  • Share your article around social and your networks if we publish it. We keep track of our analytics and gladly invite back writers who provide content that generates traffic.
