NEWS UPDATE: Tumblr Drops URLs Like a Bad Girlfriend

If you’ve ever fancied an alias as “StarlightKoala,” now is your time to shine.

In October, Tumblr began phasing out inactive users, first reaching out via email and imploring that they “reactivate [their] accounts within two weeks,” lest they want Tumblr to “allow [their] URLs to expire.”

A Tumblr support page clarified that if users do not wish to see their epic URLs disintegrate, logging in will land them right where they left off in the Tumblr world. If you didn’t respond, but check back up on your account a little later, your information will still await you patiently.

(We tested this here at Social Media Delivered. It was borderline creepy after my near 5 years of absence.)

Yahoo pulled the same trick in 2013, when it yanked any account that had been untouched for more than a year.
