Keep Calm & Tumblr On

Richard Niño | @_Richard_Nino The micro-blogging platform, Tumblr, can be used for more than personal reasons. With access to 132 million blogs, your business can connect with a variety of different users. Tumblr was recently named one of the top 15 most used websites

So why should you use it? For those of you who have creative individuals within your business, this is their time to shine. Also, Tumblr is one of the few social media websites that is indexed by search engines which will, in turn, increase your search visibility.

To utilize Tumblr, one word needs to be in the back of your mind when using the website: uniqueness. Your page needs to be different from the rest, so find a theme that is in the image of your company. Make sure that you follow other blogs that are relevant to you are trying to promote.

Setting up a queue for your blog will help tremendously. While you typically need to post content once or twice per day, Tumblr is the exception. Ten to 15 is usually the magic number when it comes to content.

Images are your best friend when it comes to the content that you post. Currently, more than half of the posts on Tumblr are images. If you feel up to the challenge, gif creation is a great way to catch the eye of your intended audience. Using videos could be just as creative, if not more so, than gifs.

Hashtags can help heighten your chances of your blog being discovered by your target audience. In fact, Tumblr encourages more hashtags than any other social media platform. If you decide to use hashtags with your content, keep them around 7-10, and make them relevant to what your post is about.

Finally, building connections is crucial. Following other blogs and interacting with them will help keep you and your company up to date on the latest trends, and introduce your audience to all that your company has to offer. Make sure that you keep your posting at a consistent pattern so that your followers keep coming back for more. If you don't post frequently, they will lose interest
