Social Media News Round-up March 11, 2010
A few interesting articles around the Web:
Yesterday to celebrate their 10th Anniversary JetBlue announced on their website plans to give away almost 1,000 free round-trip tickets at three locations in Manhatten. To find out the locations, readers were directed to the company Twitter account. In the end, they distributed about 300 tickets at three locations, gone in twenty minutes at each spot. CNET has more details, photos and comments from company rep.
Some in the mainstream media have attempted to downplay the significance of Twitter recently by referring to the fact only 27% of the users are active. Tad Chef however points out there is ample analysis demonstrating that although there are a limited number of “power users” they are far more active than users of other social networking sites.
Just in case you missed this story last month, it is still worth checking out to determine how you can apply Whole Foods online strategy to your organization. Everyone knows Whole Foods have passionate customers. But in 2009 they quickly staked their spot in the social media networking arena. They now have nearly two million followers on Twitter for their corporate account , with many of the locations having Twitter accounts as well.
Recently Social Media Examiner interviewed Whole Food’s Marla Erwin, Interactive Art Director to discuss how in a relatively short time the retailer has become “a leading example of Twitter’s power to build millions of relationships a single customer at a time.”
